Zager EZ-Play Big Baby Acoustic Mahogany $495
On Sale $395

Rated in the top 2% of guitars in the USA

Possibly the most fun to play guitar we offer. Denny designed the Big Baby for players who love the feel of smaller guitars but not the smaller sound. The Zager Big Baby provides you with excellent playability due to it's 2 inch shorter scale neck design (same as our smaller 3/4 size Baby) making it easier for smaller players, but Denny gave it a slightly larger box so sound rivals our OM size guitars. This guitar is small enough to pull in close while playing on the sofa, but large enough that it provides good bass response unlike most smaller guitars on the market today. The 2 words we hear from players when describing the Big Baby are "comfortable" and "fun".

Features (rollover to view details)

Style - Big Baby Style - Big Baby 25% smaller then our full size guitars. Close in size to our Orchestra Model (OM size) guitars but with the 2 inch shorter scale neck design that makes it easier for smaller players.
Top - Mahogany Top - Mahogany The most important part of an acoustic guitar is its top. The top acts like a speaker. When a string is plucked energy is transferred to the top and the top starts to move. Mahogany has all the characteristics of a great tonewood; its weight and strength allow for well-defined ranges of tone as well as strong volume. It's a little harder wood with better projection and real character in the grain. It works easily and displays beautiful figure, everything from straight-grained to flamed, quilt, curl, and mottled.
Back & Sides - Mahogany Back & Sides - Mahogany One of the most popular tone woods used on acoustic guitars today. If you’re looking for punchy bass, solid mids and sparkling highs mahogany is the wood you want on your next guitar. Acoustic guitars in general tend to live in the midrange portion of the sound spectrum, and mahogany in particular displays this characteristic best. Mahogany's tendency to emphasize midrange tones gives this guitar a rich full sound no matter the playing style. You can fingerpick, strum, or flatpick and mahogany always delivers.
Neck - Mahogany Neck - Mahogany Mahogany—one of the most popular tone woods used on acoustic guitars for the last 50 years.
Headstock - Mahogany Headstock - Mahogany Mahogany is lightweight yet strong, and its timeless look is used on many quality guitars.
Rosette - Abalone Rosette - Abalone Abalone type inlay is found on only the highest quality guitars. Laid by hand one piece at a time, the color and translucence of each piece changes with different amounts of light. Not only does it add to the look of your guitar, but it also adds to the value.
Finish - High Gloss Finish - High Gloss High-gloss finish provides excellent protection but at the same time is extremely light and elastic. This is a crucial point in both the sound of the guitar and its ability to age—which is what makes a guitar sound better year after year. A thick finish muffles a guitar's vibration and blocks aging.
Truss Rod - Custom Adjustment Setting Truss Rod - Custom Adjustment Setting Denny designs his guitars with a truss rod adjustment setting that allows you to dial in your guitar to your particular playing style. In this way if you're a heavy handed player you can set the action higher so you can "get on it" a little for more power, and if you're lighter handed touch player you can dial in the action low so you can move faster and play longer with less fatigue.
Nut - Zager Hand Carved Nut - Zager Hand Carved Denny hand carves each nut for each individual guitar so the strings are set lower with custom spacing. Lower string heights make it easier to press down to form chords and it also increases finger speed. Custom spacing allows you to move faster with less buzzes, mutes, and rattles because you’re no longer bumping adjacent strings. Custom string spacing makes it easier for all hands sizes big and small. Lifetime warranty. Break a nut and we'll replace it free of charge for life.
Saddle - Tusq Hand Carved Saddle - Tusq Hand Carved Denny hand carves each saddle for each individual guitar. Denny also adjusts the intonation settings to bring the guitar harmonically in balance with itself. This not only makes your guitar easier to play, but it also makes it sound more powerful. Customers say our guitars fall into tune easier and stay in tune longer...this is one of the reasons why. Denny uses only genuine "Tusq" brand saddles on his guitars which you generally only find on higher dollar acoustics . Lifetime warranty. Break a saddle and we'll replace it free of charge for life.
Strings - Zager Custom Lights (by Martin) Strings - Zager Custom Lights (by Martin) Denny only uses genuine Martin guitar strings on all of his guitars. Ask any pro player who makes the highest quality strings in the world and 9 out of 10 will say Martin…since 1833. We have customers using all brands and gauges of strings on our guitars with excellent results but this is the string that Denny sets all of his guitars up with.
Frets - Zager Soft Touch (hand filed) Frets - Zager Soft Touch (hand filed) Denny hand files each fret one at a time on every guitar that leaves our shop. By filing the frets Denny achieves two important things. When sliding up and down the neck your fingers will no longer get irritated and sore and you won't suffer from what we call "String Bite" and overall finger fatigue. Secondly, when you file the frets by hand each fret will have the same uniform height. 9 times out of 10 when you have a buzzing string it has nothing to with your playing, it’s because you have a guitar with a fret that’s sitting away from the fret board hitting a string.
Warranty - Lifetime Warranty - Lifetime Our warranty is simple. Lifetime on all guitars. A quality guitar should be made to last a lifetime and if it doesn't it wasn't a quality guitar to begin with.

Customer Testimonial

Clearly excellent sounding, this guitar is definitely easier to play than my son’s Baby Taylor; I only really noticed this after about 2 hours of strumm’n’ and pick’n’… no noticeable discomfort, and then I started playing with less force on the fret board and that worked nicely too. The workmanship is quite excellent, beautiful in all regards not already mentioned: finish is very good, smooth and consistent, sustain is far better than the Baby Taylor, and noticeably better than most guitars I’ve been able to get my hands on. I pretty much can’t tell you anything you don’t already know! Just confirming all the great things I’ve read, and now seen with my own eyes, and held with my own hands. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it more and more going forward. Couple that with the great experience and personal touches during the transaction, and I will definitely purchase another, probably an 80 CE after a while of learning on this one. I can’t imagine any reason if I buy another acoustic, it would not be another Zager. (I’ve already ‘tuned’ several of my friends on to your site and guitars.) All the Best!

How did you hear about this brand?
Internet search and ebay.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
The Zager is much more playable then my Takamine. As a new guitarist I found the playability to be so much easier and forgiving.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
The guitar looks and sounds so much like many of the more expensive guitars on the market that I like to fool my friends and family into thinking I paid much, much, more. Then when I tell them what I actually paid they just react with amazement.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
$800 - $1,200

How would you rate customer support?
Outstanding. I danced around the purchase decision for a while and Dennis was always available to annswer all of my questions.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
Yes, definitely. The look, sound, feel and playability would suit players of all levels.

How did you hear about this brand?
I was recearching Martin guitars on the internet. I came across a model that had been modified with the string science system. Intrigued, I researched the Zager site. I was convinced to try the Zager by the lifetime warranty and the 60 day money back guarantee. Ovatiom

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
It is head and shoulders above my Ovation Balladeer. The sound is brighter and the action and string spacing has reduced buzzing. I went to the local music store that sells Taylor Guitars. To be honest the $2200 Taylor I tried had a slightly better tone, but was not any easier to play. For a fifth of the price,I'll take the Zager.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
Tone and playability.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
At least $1000.

How would you rate customer support?
Excellent. Dennis was prompt in answering my questions, and Jill was professional and helpful in processing my order.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
Absolutely. It's a great guitar at a great price. I appreciate that Denny inspects and signs each of his guitars.

How did you hear about this brand?
Internet

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
I have a Epiphone Masterbuilt, a model 330 Richenbacker and now a Zager zad80ce, the Zager plays as easy as the $2000 Richenbacker and has a better full rich tone that is very impressing over the Masterbuilt.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
The virtual easy of playing this Zager guitar just blows me away. I was also greatly impressed on how the Zager was packaged in the case, everything was professional done. Was also surpised by the free sets of strings and half dozen picks included.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
The Zager family is right, the Zager sounds as good as the high priced name brands in today's market, so we are looking at the $3000+ range.

How would you rate customer support?
Dennis Zager is great to work with, when I ordered the guitar I could not afford the case at the time and to my delight and surprise Mr. Zager included it and said I could send payment when I could afford it. I do not think you can find another guitar company out there who would do that. And more more thing I email Dennis more than several times with questions about the guitar and company, and he personally email me back not in days but minutes, try that with Martin, Gibson or Taylor.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
If you are looking for a Great sounding, professionally packaged and manufactured, a guitar that is personally set-up by the owner of the company, a pleasurable guitar to play. This is Zager, you can not go wrong.

Additional comments:
Zager the One. Great Price, Great Guitar and Great People to work with.

How did you hear about this brand?
Actually from two sources at almost the same time. I was looking on Ebay and a friend of mine and I were talking and he had seen something in a guitar magazine.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
Compared to my recent past guitars which were a Taylor 710, an Ovation USA Legend Model, the Zager Guitar is by far the more user friendly guitar in both playability and sound. I play soft ballad type music with a semi finger picking style and the mahogany that was used in my Zager ZAD20 gives me a very clear but soft almost mellow tone, not to mention how beautiful the wood grain is that it almost sparkles.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
It was a hard choice trying to decide which model Zager to purchase but the appearance of the ZAD20E Mahogany and reading the reviews about that model sold me. The sound is even more pleasing then I imagined. I believe it actually makes my guitar playing better.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
I know what I paid for my Taylor and my Ovation and I would have thought had I played the Zager first that it would cost more than both of those but it was close to being half the cost.

How would you rate customer support?
It seems that both Dennis and Denny are putting every effort they can into pleasing their customers both with the quality of the product and the service they provide before and most important ***AFTER*** the sale.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
I would almost not want to recommend this guitar to any one so I could be the only one to have it but like the Mona Lisa everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a Zager. I know they wont be disappointed. I would also recommend that along with the purchase of the guitar of your choice you also buy the case, it is wellworth the price and really first class just like the guitars.

Additional comments:
It is so refreshing that in a time when it seems that many companies are lowering the quality of thier product but raising the price you can purchase a Zager Guitar and still get the best of what craftmanship is all about.

<hey.mr.spaceman@gmail.com>

How did you hear about this brand?
Web research.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
Better than any guitar I have ever bought new.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
Craftsmanship and playability.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
600-800 dollars

How would you rate customer support?
Absolutely stand up. I made an exchange and they made it very easy.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
Yes. I know a lot of guys with their eye on that vintage gibson or martin obsessing and saving and I would tell them to skip it and get a brand new Zager. Great investment at a great bargain. Stands up to any guitar out there. American made, family run, and quality controlled. Do yourself a favor and buy yourself one.

Additional comments:
I spent a lot of time deciding on what I wanted from these guys and now I want more. I bought the big baby and I can't get over it. It's the loveliest little thing and I cant put it down. I skipped a day of work just to sit around and play it for hours on end. I'm already looking to get another one from these guys. You will be so impressed and amazed. Companies like this are such a rare thing. Zager cares a lot about what they do. Get one. I want one in every shape and color.

I happened upon Zager guitars on ebay while looking at affordable guitars.. reading reviews and such

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
This is ...well ..I like this guitar better than any i have had before...I have had gibson WM-45 and a lower end martin...lots of Yamahahs and other guitars in this class...this guitar is just a perfict fit for me...way easy to play and the sound is very very good..I was playing a Loar LH 220 before this..sounded like it was packed with wool..I often just play without a pick...this guitar will still ring when picking with just fingers..that Loar would not..just sounded dead

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
I like most everything about this guitar ..i would like it in sunburst but what the hey..size wise it is extremly comfortable..The playability is extremly good..It gives me what the heck i want in a guitar.. well i would expect to be an expensive guitar..I have never shopped for a guitar in what i would expect would be its price range...I feel this a real guitar not a want to be...it is a musicians guitar

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?

Additional comments:
All joking aside, last night was the acid test. My best friend (Jim Franklin) was a semi-professional musician who has recorded a few albums of Hawaiian music (never particularly popular except in Japan!). The Epiphone was loaned to me by him. He came over for dinner last night and noticed the closed Zager case immediately. He picked up the instrument and before he started playing it, I told him that I had selected it because it was supposed to be particularly easy to play. His look was quite skeptical. And then he started playing....and playing....and smiling....and saying WOW! He has quite a few quitars. The two he plays the most are an Ovation and a Taylor. He immediately started comparing it to the Taylor (which he mentioned cost ~$2200 10-15 years ago). "This is just as nice as my Taylor". And he kept playing. "I haven't played this much in months." "I've been bored with the sound of the Ovation and the Taylor" "I like this more than my Taylor"....."I haven't wanted a new guitar for years" I wish Denny had been a fly on the wall. Thanks again. This instrument delivers on its promise.

How did you hear about this brand?
I ran across Zager while looking for a new guitar through my numerous websearches, and on eBay. Found Zager on eBay. I was actually looking for an "easy to play" guitar too, and have had fairly good luck on my own over the years, but nothing ever truly came close to what I wanted in sound and playability. My own setup, which it seemed EVERY guitar I bought needed, was good. Then WHAM, here is Zager with EZ Play. Well, this seemed right up my alley. SO I did the usual amount of several days of research into them and their guitars. Other than some crabby SNOB appeal guitar reviews, all HONEST players seemed to love their Zagers, and OVER and OVER praised the EZ Play system. I was hooked.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
I have never owned a steel string acoustic before. I have played nylon string classical and Flamenco since I was 13 and have had many guitars in that genre. I currently have a hand-built Gracia, Segovia model, from Brazil, and recently bought an A6 Godin because of it's so called "playablity." I still had to do some setup on the Gracia. I have tried NUMEROUS guitars in stores over the years and was never truly satisfied with the setups or sound. I even delved into the world of the $3000+ guitars and was STILL not completely happy with the playability of them. RIGHT out of the box, the Zager immediately showed me its worth. (LOVE the onboard tuner.) I did some minor tuning, and hit it. WOW! It IS easy to play. I have had arthritis in the left index finger for many years, so my inability to chord well was a HUGE issue for me. Right away, without strain or pain I could chord again. awesome. Whatever Denny is doing in his setup absolutely kicks ass over any guitar I have played or owned. Playing has become a joy again. The sound quality is wonderful; very full, with a beautiful resonance, even with this smaller body guitar. I know as the guitar ages the sound and playablity will only improve. How often do you ever get to have a GREAT purchase get even better? I am selling ALL my other guitars.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
This question isn't fair. LOL. Gee - A great price for a guitar with awesome playablity and terrific sound, customer service equal to none....dang, I'm stuck. OH YES. My favorite part of the guitar is Dennis Zager. Without him I wouldn't be writing this review, or playing this fabulous guitar. He took HIS dissatisfaction with a entire industry and put his time, energy, and personal touch to work. I know what it takes to setup up a guitar. Denny has gone SO FAR BEYOND the extra mile in offering guitars of this quality to the public, I can't thank him enough. He could have just setup his own guitars and been done with it. Instead, he has given ALL of us the chance to play with an ear to ear smile on our faces. Ok, Sainthood might not be in order, but, dang. Find me a Better guitar than this and I will eat it, then buy one. It ISN'T out there folks. I have looked for years, decades even, barring spending over $10,000. Stop looking and buy this.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
That's kind of a loaded question. But I will put it this way - PRICELESS. That fact that I CAN play again, WITH ease, and WITH joy, goes beyond value for me. It is a beautiful instrument, that played "like butter" right out of box. You get customer service like NO ONE ELSE has in this industry. There is NO price you can put on playing with joy for the rest of your life. I have never played a guitar in ANY price range that overall compares to the Zager and what their company offers.

How would you rate customer support?
The best I have experienced. And I have worked in the customer service industry most all of my life, so I know first hand what it takes. It doesn't get any better than this.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
Without hestitation, unless you're looking for name brand axe with major snob appeal. See the above points, and re-read them again. If you think I am over embellishing this, TOO BAD. It is absolutely the truth. Usually you don't get a chance to rant for something wonderful. OK, you might need to spend $10000+ if you are a concert Classical guitarist, or a rock star gone insane. STOP wasting your time reading this and buy a Zager. You will not regret it.

Additional comments:
What else can I say? Thank you Denny Zager. Why couldn't I have discovered you 40 years ago? This kind of "happy" doesn't come along everyday with any product you buy sight unseen, let alone one you can see, test, and compare. A wonderful product with the best service. Too bad all purchases aren't like this.

How did you hear about this brand?
Not really sure. Believe I saw something on the Internet.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
I have owned mid-level acoustic guitars all my life, including Ovation, Takamine, Alvarez, Fender and Epiphone. This is by far the best I've owned, and probably the best I've played, and I've "window shopped" many times, trying out dozens of Gibsons, Martins and Taylors.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
It's difficult to pick out one thing, but I guess it would have to be playability. With every other instrument I've owned, it always seemed like I was fighting the guitar (or vice versa). The Zager has a smooth, breezy feel. It's more a partner than an opponent. The best way I could describe it is like a knife through butter. But everything else about the guitar is top-shelf also. The sound is tremendous and it stays in tune. Another thing: I was blown away by the case I purchased with this guitar. It is of the highest quality, and in my opinion has a value at least twice its cost.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
I would say $2,000 to $3,000.

How would you rate customer support?
So far I haven't needed any, but I can tell from my pre-purchase experiences that Zager is truly a musician's company, and keeps its customers up front and personal. I have no doubt that if and when I need help I will get it with no problem.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
Absolutely. Once you own a Zager, you'll never have a desire to buy another acoustic.

The ease of playing , the tone, and the perfect construction. this is truly a beautiful instrument.

How did you hear about this brand?
I found Zager guitars while shopping on Ebay about a year ago and still I think that is the only place I have seen them, I bought my Zad20 at that time and have never been happier about money I have spent on anything! the Zad20 is truly a gem and gets better each time I pick it up.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
This guitar is in a class all by itself, I have owned Takamines, Sigmas and now own a Martin D-1 along with the Zad20 that I bought about six months ago and would sell tomorrow if I could recover my $900.00 that I wasted on it, it can't hold a candle to the Zad20, I only wish I could have spent the money on another Zager Zad80 and will if I ever get the chance to sell the Martin.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
Firstly it would have to be the sound, the sound is head and shoulders above anything I have ever played and the easy of play would be next, I can play this guitar for hours and not put it down.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
I would expect to pay in the $1200.00 to $1200.00 dollar range for this guitar easily.

How would you rate customer support?
I haven't needed to use the customer support but have talked via the internet with Denny Zager, when visiting their website and the emails are answered within an hour or two of sending them one.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
I would recommend this guitar above any other because it is the best guitar on the market in my opinion, bar none.

Additional comments:
If you are in the market for a new guitar do yourself a favor and try a Zager you won't be sorry, I know I haven't been. And with their 100% satisfaction guarantee you don't have anything to lose, I asked myself how they could make this kind of claim but when I got my guitar I could understand, I highly doubt they get many returns.

How did you hear about this brand?
I already have the Zager ZAD20CE. I wanted a smaller body and I prefer mahogany over other woods.

How does this guitar compare with your old guitar, other guitars, or guitars you've tried in stores?
I still have my 1972 Guild all mahogany D25--and I get a similar kind of Travis folksy sound out of my Zagers. I have some shoulder issues from too many years on a big box and tried a Taylor T5--it plays great and the sound is ahhh--okay acoustically. The Zager 20ceom plays as easy as the T5 but the sound is so much richer.

What's your favorite part about this guitar?
The size and the sound. The electronics are superb and the notch filter is a must if you are going to be playing in different sound systems. I also have a Fishman AURA blender and Zoom A2 pedal and neither improved the outstanding sound all that much. I am a very light touch player and this guitar is like it was custom made for me. Plugged in there is not a lot of volume adjustment between finger and pick.

If you didn't know the price of this guitar what would you estimate the price to be?
In the $1200-2000 price range given the looks and playability. I played a 9k McPherson last week and frankly this guitar plays better and sounds better to me--just my taste.

How would you rate customer support?
You can't beat it. Who else has so much confidence in their product and work they will give a lifetime guarantee and pay for return shipping? Denny has a lot of videos on how to set up, restring, etc. your guitar. I found that this guy knows what he is talking about when it comes to setting up the best playing guitar. I changed things I had been doing for 40 years.

Would you recommend this guitar to others…if so why?
I do recommend Zagers. When people come over to the studio, I let them play one and they are amazed at the sound and how well they play. I know two people who got Zagers for sure and others said they were looking in to it. I ask Denny for extra picks and he sends them so I can hand them out.

Additional comments:
If you play several hours a day or at a sitting, and you love the acoustic sound, I don't think you can touch these instruments. I have hybrids like the Taylor T5, Parker Fly, and Ovation VXT--the Zagers play as good or better and sound so much more acoustically rich. The only people that might not like a Zager are heavy handed players.
