Zager EZ-Play ZAD50 OM Size Acoustic $695 - On Sale $495

Orchestra Model "OM" sized guitars are approximately 15% smaller than our full size guitars. They have a narrower waist which makes them sit lower in your lap and are easier to get your arm around. The tone and pitch will match our full size guitars but bass and volume will be approximately15% less because the sound box is 15% smaller. 60 years of playing, performing and teaching guitar has given Denny an advantage over the majority of guitar builders today. Denny understands the demands of the professional player because he is one.  He discovered there are certain key elements that make a great guitar, and with that knowledge he created the Zager ZAD50 Series. (Zager Advanced Design) Elements like solid wood construction, high quality hardware, a custom neck design that feels good in your hand, string spacing that allows you to move faster on the fret board that simultaneously prevents buzzes and rattles, combined with a special bracing system that produces one of the best sounds in the acoustic guitar market today.  If you read customer testimonials and current magazine reviews players are saying the ZAD50 outperforms the best from the top 2 guitar makers...for half the price.   Where else are you going to find a custom hand made guitar worked on by a Master luthier for under $700? Our #1 selling guitar.

Customer Testimonial

09/19/06 Hi Denny Sr and Jr, My ZAD-50 OM arrived Thursday and it truly meets all my expectations. I really like the smaller body of the OM because I enjoy playing the guitar in a style that is more commonly used when you play a classic acoustic guitar. The action is great Denny, you haven't lost your touch because it is just as nice as my Martin D-41 that you modified clear back in 1975. The smaller body of the ZAD-50 OM truly has a wonderful sound. I am looking forward to enjoying this guitar for many years to come. Thanks for your help and shipping the guitar so quickly. Best Wishes
Bob Gillespie

Well made, perfect finish, strong neck. nice looking --actually have the OM model.

Features : 10
clear, loud, broad sound.

Rich sound, especially nice for finger-picking style. No buzzing in spite of low setting.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The day before I received this, I went to the local music store and played a $2,000+ Martin which I loved. This instrument was comparable, and perhaps had even a slightly better action feel. Quite amazing, given the reasonable price, though this may be due to the fact that the middle-man is cut out and it is a buy-direct operation. I had read many reviews about the action and was pleased to see for myself how accurate those reviews were. UPS cross-country in 1 week. Well packaged.

Reliability/Durability : 10
New guitar, but I give it the high rating due to the lifetime backing by the family owned business. After purchasing a Takamine last year, just 2 months later, the store did not want to know me when I came in about some questions regarding the neck and set up. I feel comfortable with the make of the guitar; it appears built to last.
I am very comfortable with the guarantee...the backing deserves a 10.

Customer Support : 10
Perhaps the finest customer service I have experienced in any field of business, including such places known for great customer service like LL Bean.

As many others have already written, I also prefer to buy "hands on" and not online, and because of that nervousness, I called many times, and e-mailed as often. I never wore out their patience and they were more than happy to answer every question I had.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing since I was a teen, almost 30 years ago, and have owned a few nice guitars (Takamine/Ovation) in those years. I am sold on the Zager. I think it probably is best described as a really nice Martin clone ----it sounds quite comparable to the more expensive ($2,000 and up) Martins and the action/comfort is first rate. When I practice, I like to concentrate and get into a serious concentrating mode and being able to practice for several hours straight without sore fingers is of great benefit. Since I cannot afford to spend $2500 for a Martin that I really love, this is a great substitute. I absolutely will buy another if lost or stolen. I will buy another for my daughter and if my wife wants to play, I will get her a Zager as well. I am sold on the loyalty of the family owned business.

This guitar has a full rich sound that surpasses any guitar I have tried. I am new to playing, but have tried many - most well out of my price range.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar was modified, by hand by Denny Zager himself and signed by him. His EZ Play guitar is significantly easier to play. I can play this guitar for hours. I have yet to have my fingers hurt, even after two or more hours of playing. Awesome!!! No flaws that I can see. Personally checked by Denny before shipping.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I believe this guitar will withstand anyone's live playing, tho I won't be doing it for a while, if at all. It's for my own personal pleasure. The hardware and finish are top-notch. I expect it will last, and if I do have a problem, I have a lifetime warranty. Yes, I can depend on it.

Customer Support : 10
I've only had it two months, but it has a lifetime warranty. I've had several email and voice conversations with them. They answered my questions and concerns in a very timely manner, was kind, helpful and courteous and I have no doubt that the service will be just as good.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been "trying" to play for several years. I also own an Ibanez, but don't know the model. I find it very hard to fret, which is why the Zager appealed to me. I researched it and asked questions before I bought, but they offer a money back guarantee, including shipping charges, so how could I go wrong? If my guitar was lost or stolen, I wouldn't hesitate one second to order another Zager guitar. I love the ease of playing, easier than any other guitar I've picked up, the fact that I can play it for hours without my fingers killing me (tops 15 minutes with Ibanez), I love the rich tone this guitar has, I love how beautiful this guitar looks, I love the quality I got in this guitar for the price. I looked at Martins in the local store, which I could not afford, and another Ibanez, which was no better than the one I own.
I realize in your instructions that you say nothing is perfect and that this may not be published. But I can't find anything wrong with my purchase or my purchase experience. It's been awesome. I also signed up for Zager on-line classes and am finally learning to play and I'm more excited about it than I have ever been. I'll be happy to forward my testimonial that I sent the Zager's if you like, and I mean every word of it. As to your statement that "nothing is perfect" - as the song goes, "it's close enough to perfect to me".

Features : 9
Gloss finish OM style body
Grover sealed non locking tuners
Fast neck. Scale seems shorter that the 251/2 Most of my arsenal has. and this is good for me
20 total. 14 at the joint
Solid Spruce top
Mahogany back/sides with neck and body bindings. Abalone inlay rosette

Sound : 9
I play finger pick mostly. Very suitable for me
when used Fender Frontman 15G.
It is acoustic. Not noisy at all.
Rich and vibrant sounds. Somewhat sensual. Unususal for ex light strings.
Great action and fast nrck. Small waist good features for me.
Zager recommends these strings but I like them a little heavier.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is very low. Zager is a luthier. He set it up and customized the nut, saddle and frets for remarkably easy playing
top is solid spruce. cannot see any divisions or seams.
This guitar was subjected to above average crqftmansship. It was very clean and well polished

Reliability/Durability : 8
Only time will tell if it will stand road work. I use it in my studio.
Grover tuners (sealed) The name speakes for itself
Only one strap button. I would have preferred none
I play for my own enjoyment. I would put it in front of a crowd but only with frsh strings. The guitar structure is mechanically sound and well braced. It should hold up as long as you use it to make music, not war.
I gave it an 8 only because I would expect it to hold up but dont know factually that it will

Customer Support : 10
Emailed them twice. They were very polite and responsive

Overall Rating : 10
Started in 1965. I never asked about scale but as it turned out it is not an issue. Should have asaked about he string guage recommendation. These strings atr a little too light for me. It is probably part of their "String Science" modification they do.
I will definately buy another. I want the 80CE
I wanted to try the EZ Play system they incorporate. I really have enough guitars. Now I want more. No comparison was made to any except the Martin OM series. This is my first OM soo I wanted to keep my investment down. I would have bought it with onboard EQ and pickup.Nothing else to tell at this time. I just plain like playing it. I find it easier to fret than my D28.

USA made in 2006. EZ-play feature is phenomenal for those with smaller hands.

Sound : 10
Acoustic folk and Spanish. Zager gave excellent info on which of their products would give the best sound for my requirements and they were right.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Delivered in perfect condition without flaws. Quality exceptional especially considering the price. Compares with my Martin at 3 times the price.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I am not a professional player but see no reason this guitar will not last me a lifetime.

Customer Support : 10
Contact with the company has been exceptional, informative friendly and prompt.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing 25 + years. Other guitars include far mor expensive Ibanez and Martin. Because of the EZ play configuration, quality and price I would immediately replace with the same model if lost. This guitar is a gem and the company are as one would expect from a family business, personable and accomodating.

Guitar sounds excellent!!! I replaced the original Strings with Martin Marquis and the guitar sounds even better.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The only reason I rate this a 7 here is the finish. The neck sides and back look awesome but the finish on the top is just ok.It is not saned as smooth as I would have liked it, but it was no worse than what was in the local shops at this price point and significantly higher. I may be overly critical here but I work wood so I know it can be better. The fit and the action are great. Several of my friends who are much more experienced than I am agreed.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Hard to tell as I have not had it long...but I think it will hold up fine

Customer Support : 10
Hands down the best customer service in the world. This is a no brainer folks.....if ya do not like it send it back PERIOD. The answer every question quickly and completely. Wish everyone I did business with treated me this way.

Overall Rating : 9
Again my only real ding here is the finish on the top. I have seen this guitar maker take a lot of grief in the forums here and I just do not understand it. THe action is great...the sound is great and the setup was terrific. Almost makes me wonder how many of these folks have actually laid hands on one.

company extremely helpful. originally ordered dreadnaught and exchanged for orchestra model. no questions asked. picked up the exchange and no shipping charges either way. lifetime warranty as long as I own the guitar.

Overall Rating : 9
this OM model perfect for me. modified strings makes it easier for me with damaged wrist. excellent size wise. would replace if damaged. other guitars didnt match the no questions asked, money back guarantee if not happy after 60 days, and I excercised that option once already for the smaller model.

Denny Zager string science set-up -- It should be a law that all dealers have their set up at least 75% as good as this!

Well built should last a life time.

Customer Support : 10
Very nice staff!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I am a professional luthier, I bought this guitar to see if the set up was truly at a high level of playability --- it is! This guitar would be a wise investment for the new player, the learning curve would accelerate rapidly mainly due to the fact that the student could pratice longer and more often with less hand fatigue. Plus it sounds very good.

I started playing the guitar in the 60's and have owned many guitars over the years to include some high dollar models that I
still have. I must say that the ZAD-50 has the best action of any guitar that I have played. Very slim neck with a custom Nut and
Saddle. The strings seem to ride very close to the fretboard with
no Buzz. It has a solid Spruce Top with Mahogany back and sides
which account for the great sound even in this smaller OM Model. A
very comfortable and playable guitar

Sound : 10
Great for picking or finger style with a rich, full tone

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Out of the box the guitar is set-up perfectly with a very low action
and no buzzing

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Haven't had it long enough to give an opinion on durabilty but it seem pretty solid.

Customer Support : 10
Had many contacts with them prior to purchase. They were very helpful and friendly. Lifetime warranty included

Overall Rating : 10
I Have been playing for over 30 years. I would buy this guitar again.
The thing I like most is the playability and action. Honestly it sounds as good as my Taylor.
